On December 19, 2014, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC, declared during his attendance to the Celebration for Fifteenth Anniversary of Macao’s Return to China that the Central Government decided to present another pair of pandas to Macao. According to the arrangement of the Central Government, the State Forestry Adminstration had devoted great efforts to communicating and coordinating with the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Macao SAR Government, IACM, and relevant departments in Sichuan Province to jointly work on presenting the pandas. Under the overall arrangement of the State Forestry Administration and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, and with the support from Forestry Department of Sichuan Province, Chengdu Forestry & Landscaping Bureau, and other departments of all levels, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding overcame the difficulties of short time and heavy task, coordinated actively with IACM, organized experts for many times to hold working meetings of experts and initiated panel discussion, field survey of panda pavilion, and repetitive contrasts of nominated pandas to finally sort out No. 667 and 726 pandas as the ones to be presented.
The pair of pandas will fly to Macao by Air China CA 649 Special Plane at 14:00 on April 30, and Macao will hold the Welcome Ceremony for the Pair of Pandas Presented by the Central Government to Macao in Shek Pai Wan Park at 17:00 of the same day. Then, the two pandas will be put under quarantine for 30 days. They are expected to meet the citizens of Macao on June 1.
The pandas to be presented will keep their names of “Kaikai” and “Xinxin”. We sincerely wish them life-long happiness in Macao.
