At 22:13 on July 4, giant panda Meng Meng successfully gave birth to a healthy male cub at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The cub was truly chubby, weighing 179.8g after birth with all vital signs being normal.

As the saying goes, “Si Jia is the cutest giant panda in the South while Meng Meng is the cutest in the North”. The nine-year-old Meng Meng comes from Beijing, a big star and beauty who has a large following. In 2013, Meng Meng successfully gave birth to a pair of male twins, Meng senior and Meng junior. Since Meng Meng is from Beijing, the two brothers are usually called “prince senior” and “prince junior”. During the spring, Meng Meng fell in love with handsome Mei Lan of Chengdu. It was love at first sight. Afterwards, for insurance purposes, researchers carried out artificial insemination. On the evening of July 3, Meng Meng started to have parturient reactions. At 17:55 on July 4, Meng Meng’s water broke and she successfully gave birth to the cub in the evening. As a way of showing care and love to the newly born cub, giant panda fans referred to this chubby fellow as “third prince”.
