The giant pandas Si Yi and Xiao Qiao were born in 2012. In March 2016, they set off for Luoyang Longtan Valley in Henan. In February 2018, I visited this two pandas in Luoyang, where they had lived for more than two years.
The panda house is located in the scenic area of Longtan Valley, surrounded by mountains and rivers.
There are indoor and outdoor playgrounds in the panda house. There are pools, wooden frames and trees on the two outdoor playgrounds. Si Yi and Xiao Qiao already are adults as they are more than five years old, so they are living apart, with separate indoor and outdoor playgrounds.
I came to the panda house at 10:00 a.m. when Si Yi was eating bamboos. Surrounded by green bamboos, Si Yi had a good appetite. She ate bamboo selectively and sometimes stopped to act cute. But Xiao Qiao had ended her breakfast already and squatted on the grass like a penguin. Sometimes she looked here and there, and sometimes closed eyes for rest.
Near noon, Si Yi and Xiao Qiao had their meals and went to sleep. They climbed onto their own wooden frames and lay down in their most comfortable position, enjoying the sunshine after days of rain.
It was time for extra meal in the afternoon! Si Yi was already a 5-year-old boy. so it was easy for him to get up and pick up the panda bread. Offering food by “Fishing” exercised their hind legs. Keepers sometimes placed apples in sacks or on branches as a means of enrichment. After a lot of “struggle”, he finally got the apple and ate it happily.
When Xiao Qiao waited for the bread, she posed as shown in the picture below — putting hands against the wall. Is this “working out” to urge the keepers? Don't worry, the keepers would be here soon. After eating the breads and apples, Xiao Qiao continued to enjoy her meal in the “sea” of bamboos.
This is the end of the visit. I hope that Si Yi and Xiao Qiao can grow up healthily there!
